For those who know the position of women in the northern part of the country, Aisha Buhari can simply be described as a courageous woman. First this administration started with their deceit of telling us her title is the wife of the president, instead of the first lady we were already conversant with. I, on my part, still call her our First lady because neither wife of the president nor First lady is a constitutional provision. APC government should not expect me to start learning how to be left-handed at old age hence I will maintain the one I know which is the first lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Recently, this woman of valour posted in her official Twitter account about two national lawmakers who are criticising her husband’s administration. Reacting to that development , Senator Ben Bruce described Mrs Aisha Buhari as ‘an intelligent woman .’ Before then, this woman had in 2016,about a year into her husband’s administration stated it clearly during an interview anchored by BBC Hausa that ‘”The president does not know 45 out of 50 of the people he appointed and I don’t know them either, despite being his wife of 27 years.”
Permit me to report part of the interview as published the BBC after that interview:
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife has warned him that she may not back him at the next election unless he shakes up his government.
In a BBC interview, Aisha Buhari suggested his government had been hijacked by only a “few people”, who were behind presidential appointments.
She said the president did not know most of the officials he had appointed.
Mr Buhari, who is on a visit to Germany, has responded by saying his wife belonged in his kitchen.
Standing alongside German Chancellor Angela Merkel at a news conference, the president laughed off his wife’s accusations.
“I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room,” he said.
Mr Buhari said that having run for president three times and having succeeded the fourth, he could “claim superior knowledge over her”.
The influence ‘of a few people’
Mr Buhari was elected last year with a promise to tackle corruption and nepotism in government.
But in the interview with Naziru Mikailu from BBC Hausa, Mrs Buhari said: “The president does not know 45 out of 50 of the people he appointed and I don’t know them either, despite being his wife of 27 years.”
She said people who did not share the vision of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) were now appointed to top posts because of the influence a “few people” wield.
“Some people are sitting down in their homes folding their arms only for them to be called to come and head an agency or a ministerial position,” she said.
His wife’s decision to go public with her concerns will shock many people, but it shows the level of discontent with the president’s leadership, says the BBC’s Naziru Mikailu in the capital, Abuja……
Some people criticised her after the interview in 2016 but late 2017 she was vindicated .Her husband appointed some dead people into different national positions. Most embarrassing and insulting is the fact that the presidential spokespersons tried to defend that ineptitude and incompetence in governance. If I were the spokesperson of Mr President I would know when to keep quiet and when to defend my boss. Appointing dead people into positions of authority is like a junior doctor who presents early morning-review of a patient to his superiors, claiming that he just finished examining the patient few minutes ago, when actually the patient has died and has been moved to the morgue about five hours ago. It can also be likened to a lawyer going to the court to argue a case of his client when his client has resolved many days ago with his opposite to withdraw the suit and settle out of the court. Why then do lawyers charge appearance fee? Is that not a way to know if their clients are still interested in the matters they are handling for them or not so they can know if their appearances are still needed or not?
Assuming those appointees were not dead what if they rejected the positions assigned to them after Mr President has announced the appointments? Do you know the embarrassment that would cause to the government? I thank God that even the leadership of APC, for the first time, came out to exonerate and distance themselves from that show of shame by stating that they were not consulted before the final list was released, but I still put it to them that whether they distance themselves from this act of incompetence in governance all we know is that this is an APC government. They are the ones that gave us their candidate hence they should be responsible to accept all that this administration gives us .Note the words of Aisha Buhari in the interview, the president does not know 45 out of 50 people he appoints, so who really appoints people into positions of authority in this administration? You cannot answer that question without making reference to the concept of cabals in the presidency. The Sahara Reporters recently reported that our First lady (as I still call her) was addressed as a ‘Suicide bomber from Adamawa’ by part of the cabal and nobody bothered to investigate that. I was waiting for Nigerian women to react at least to defend their number one citizen but everybody was silent in line with what the legendary Fela Kuti said about Nigerians that ‘Nigerians shout when you expect them to be quiet and they keep quiet when you expect them to shout.’
Consider the scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), we have a president who appoints himself as a minister of petroleum and there is fuel scarcity. Nobody has a definite answer on the real cause of the scarcity. NNPC will tell you they have enough PMS to serve the entire country the same way our Electricity Company will tell you they have generated enough power for distribution but same electricity company has a big generator set and is even installing solar power to tell you they do not trust their own power generation. If NNPC is truthful in her assertion then let our NNPC mega stations run a 24 hour services after all many independent marketers are currently doing that. By running 24-hour services they will render the independent marketers irrelevant in the distribution chain of PMS. They have the security so why won’t they run a 24 hour service if they truly have enough quantity of the product?
Look at the issue of Fulani herdsmen ,Innocent Nigerians are constantly being slaughtered in Southern Kaduna ,Taraba ,Benue states et cetera even when we have commander in chief of armed forces of the federation . The government was very fast in sending soldiers against IPOB members and going to the court to proscribe IPOB as a terrorist organisation but now very slow in replicating same to the Fulani heardsmen. When people asked me why the court should make such pronouncement, I asked them was it not same lower court in South Africa that jailed Nelson Mandela and other Freedom fighters which later sparked off international protests until Nelson Mandela was released from prison .Nelson Mandela refused to appeal his own judgement anyway because anybody that knows the judicial system well will know that it is the Executive arm of government that appoints judges to higher courts after recommendations by the Judicial Council in the country. What that means is that any judge who is in the blacklist of the Executive arm of the government may not be appointed from lower to higher courts even when fully recommended by the judicial council. Our judges in the Supreme Court need no further Executive appointments and that is why a matter between a state and the federal government begins and ends in the Supreme Court with no other lower court intervening.
I also ask was it not same lower courts that kept on nullifying the election of governor Nyesom Wike until the Supreme Court gave the final verdict. Was it not same lower courts that refused to recognise Senator Makarfi as PDP national chairman until the Supreme Court did the needful? To me, if I have any case against the government in the lower courts, I need not waste my precious time defending myself until I get to the Supreme Court. The few judges in the lower courts that passed unpalatable judgements against APC and this present administration ,did you not see how they were treated like common criminals by the DSS who invaded their houses in odd hours in what they called ’sting operation’ . I now ask where the sting operation was when herdsmen planned and executed their incessant attacks on innocent citizens with no resistance.
The next day the government would condemn the act and would be ready to prevent reprisal attacks by the victims while the herdsmen prepared for the next attack. Anybody that talks; he will be arrested and labelled a terrorist. In this administration, DSS cannot charge anybody to court without including a treason charge. Any Christian leader that talks, the next day he is either summoned by the DSS office or arrested and treated like a common criminal .Ladies may come out the next day to claim that such Christian leader has amorous relationship with them all in a bid to tarnish the image of the person .We all witnessed how the case between Apostle Johnson Suleiman and DSS ended and how several ladies started coming out to lay charges against the man of God after the incident. I thank God that we have tested some level of democracy in the 16 years of PDP rule which gave rise to a major opposition that removed same PDP but today what do we have? Freedom of speech as it is contained in S.39 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFRN) as amended is now ignored .My friend ,Daniel Elombah ,a journalist ,was arrested by SARS operatives for his publication allegedly against the government reminiscing the brutal and oppressive decree 4 of 1984 which was against the freedom of the press.
Every comment against the current government by a citizen is seen as ‘crossing the red line’. The DSS will be ready with their treason charge against the fellow while the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation will move to the court to declare the fellow a terrorist. I have been waiting for them to declare these AK-47-wielding Fulani herdsmen as terrorists but that will not occur, of course, as the herdsmen really need those deadly weapons to protect their cows against unlawful violence as contained in S33(2) of the CFRN . What are human lives in Nigeria when compared to one cow?
What corruption do you say you are fighting when you cannot purge your surroundings of corruption? He who wants equity must come with a clean hand. Which corruption is bigger than disobedience of court orders? To me that is the worst and highest corruption that can occur in a nation. Recently, somebody wrote a book against the mental state of President Donald Trump, can that happen in Nigeria? The answer to that question is that if a writer tries that in Nigeria, he will be labelled a terrorist and a treason charge will be prepared against him by the ‘Treason charge department’ . This is why our security agencies have severally claimed to have killed Abubarkar Shekau but such notorious being is constantly being seen in recent videos talking tough against the government but American security forces killed Osama Bin Ladin once. The reason is simple, American security forces know the true meaning of a terrorist and to them a terrorist is not a citizen or a group who challenges and opposes the government of the day. The American Security forces know how to go after real terrorists. They needed no court to declare Osama Bin Ladin a terrorist , they did not announce their modus operandi on the pages of the newspapers when they were on top of the search for Osama Bin Ladin. They never claimed they had defeated Osama Bin Ladin when they had not killed him.
To be continued…….
